Songhe Liquor Industry
Songhe Liquor Industry is a large-scale Chinese liquor brewing enterprise rooted in the rich cultural fertile soil of the Central Plains in China. It is located at the source of the Huai River in the famous liquor brewing zone. It is located in the hometown of Laozi and the birthplace of Taoist culture. Luyi Zaoji Town (now SongHe Town), is the hometown of the famous traditional liquor in China. Songhe liquor has a long history of brewing, it began in the Spring and Autumn Period and flourished in the Tang and Song Dynasties, it can be traced back to more than 3,600 years of history. The liquor brewed was designated as "court tribute liquor" by Emperor Zhao Guangyi of the Song Dynasty. There is a reputation of "liquor bestowed by heaven, spring water bestowed by the world", "Zaoji liquor, well-deserved reputation", and it is also known as the "Top Ten Palace Tribute Liquor" in ancient China.
In 518 BC, Confucius asked Lao Tzu about etiquette on the banks of the ancient Song River. Lao Tzu treated Confucius with liquor brewed in Zaoji Town. After Confucius drank it, he left behind the ancient drinking way of "Only drinking is boundless, not chaos.". From the Han Dynasty to the Song Dynasty, eight emperors successively visited Luyi and set up altars to pay homage to Laozi with Zaoji liquor. From ancient times to the present, Songhe liquor has enjoyed the reputation of "Eight Dynasties Royal Liquor".
In 1968, in order to excavate cultural heritage and long-standing liquor brewing skills, the Luyi Town Government united more than 20 larger liquor brewing workshops. Based on the original Zaoji liquor brewing workshop on the banks of the Songhe River, a state-owned enterprise was established. "Luyi Liquor Brewing Factory" was renamed as Songhe Liquor Brewing Factory in 1988. In the same year, at the 5th National Liquor Appraisal, Songhe Liangye won the title of National Famous Liquor and the Gold Award, became the top 17 liquor brands in China.
Courtesy of China for three thousand years, 50 years of glory and prosperity, after half a century of development, today’s Songhe Liquor Industry Brewing Industrial Zone covers an area of 1.1 million square meters, a building area of 620,000 square meters, and has 10,000 fermentation tanks. There are 126 teams, including 10 China's chief liquor taster and national liquor judges, and more than 100 municipal and provincial brewing technicians. The annual output of original liquor is 30,000 tons, and the storage capacity is over 160,000 tons. It has made outstanding contributions to inherit the liquor culture of Central Plains and promote local economic development.
The three leading brands of Songhe liquor industry including "Guozi Songhe", "Songhe Liangye" and "Luyi Daqu" lead Henan and are well-known at home and abroad. In particular, the high-end Henan liquor brand represented by Guozi Songhe was recognized by the China Liquor Industry Association as the "Chinese (Henan) Regional Cultural Symbol Liquor", and was awarded the honor of "Chinese Culture Famous Liquor" in 2018. It is also the designated liquor for the Henan Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo. Over the years, it has been selected as a special brand for courtesy in many major events both inside and outside the province.
